I could tell you some other superficial things about myself— I love dark chocolate and red wine, I love DC for it’s grand architecture and rich history, I have a husband I adore, a strong marriage, a darling baby girl, a quaint old brick home, and a love for strong coffee & a good book.

But if you really want to know me, here are a few things that matter:

I never get tired of weddings.
I tear up at almost every first kiss.
I think pretty & styled is nice, but real life is beautiful.
I would rather cook for a friend than buy a meal out.
I care more about having a beautiful soul than a perfect body.
I cherish every lingering morning, and end every night with a kiss.
I believe marriage is one of the greatest earthly gifts anyone can receive.
I believe in telling your story, not my own version of it.

I’m a planner by nature (I’ve written 5-year plans for myself since I […]

Last week I attended Justin & Mary‘s Lighting Intensive in Richmond. I feel that I have a fairly good handle on lighting, but wanted a good refresher course, and this? Well… it was much more than that. Justin & Mary are soooooo smart, and are so generous with their wisdom! They’ve been shooting much longer than I have, and […]

“How did you get into photography?”  This is, perhaps, the most oft-received question put to me during client meetings… or in the course of normal conversation with new friends. Well, the story goes something like this: It was October, 2002. I was standing in line for dinner, holding vocabulary flash cards in my hand, when I […]

I shot a wedding in Texas about six months ago. I had an early flight the morning after, and left just as the sun was coming over the horizon. It was the perfect morning— mist, and gentle curving hills, and cows. Yes, cows. Perfect. I couldn’t choose just one, or between black & white, so […]

Little preface: My initial instinct, when sitting down to begin a blog post, is to look back at the past few months and see just how inconsistent I have been, despite all my attempts at regular posting. But this morning I read an article on productivity and idols that put things in sharp perspective for me. I […]
